An established artist, Anna Galea (b.1958) is best known for her large floral and marine watercolours, although she is also very keen on life figure painting and abstractions. She has more recently taken to painting large canvases in oils and other mediums in addition to her expressions in large watercolours. Tutored by Esprit Barthet, Sarah Warren, Harry Alden and Anton Calleja, Anna holds a Bachelor's degree in History of Art and Archeology (2009) from the University of Malta and a Master’s degree in Creativity and Innovation (2013) from the Edward de Bono Institute of Thinking, University of Malta. She has also participated in various workshops including Contemporary Painting at Central St. Martins of London (2014).
In Malta, Anna has a large Studio/Gallery where she exhibits her works and where life figure painting sessions are held together with a closed group of fellow artists. In Dubai, where she presently resides most of the year, Anna continues to paint and exhibit her artworks at various venues, besides conducting watercolour workshops.
Anna has won several prizes, including Best Watercolour Award (British Residents' Association) in 1998, the National Art Competition in 2003; the Silver Palette Competition (Malta Society of Arts) in 2002 & 2004. She is founder member of the Friends of the National Museum of Fine Arts.
Solo exhibitions include those at the National Museum of Fine Arts in 2003 and at the National Maritime Museum in 1999, at AES International, DIFC Dubai in 2014, and Meydan Heights Dubai in 2015 to present. Her latest solo exhibition in Malta, Watercolour Abstractions, was held at the Heritage Malta Gallery in Valletta in June 2016. In January-February 2018 the European Delegation hosted an exhibition Women's Perspectives, featuring paintings by Anna and photographs by her daughter, Stephanie, in Washington DC. Anna has also exhibited her works in Paris (twice), Levandou, at the Salone Borromini in Rome, in Fabriano, at the EU Parliament building in Brussels, at the Palace Kheridiene in Tunis, in Sydney, Adelaide, in Bogota, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Miami, New York, and in other collective exhibitions in Malta and Gozo.
She has conducted several art demonstrations including a Master's demonstration to members of the International Watercolour Society at the Fabriano InArte Convention 2016, and a Master's demonstration at the International Watercolour Festival in Dubai in 2018.
Anna’s paintings have featured in books of the highly acclaimed ‘International Artist’ publishers of USA, on telecards, calendars, book covers and other publications. Her works can be found in various private collections of art connoisseurs, in palaces and museums, banks and offices.
